The magnificent creator (God) never created a cruel world. Out of love, He created the universe and made everything beautiful and comfortable for man’s habitation. However, the actions and inactions of humans make the world cruel. That’s not to say that the world itself is cruel, rather, the crooked lifestyle of men is what can be termed cruel. People feel so unsecured to live in their own environment because it is hard to tell who to trust. No one knows if that same person who smiles at you and proclaims love for you everyday, would be the same person to harm, hurt, rob, or kill you in the near future. 19th July, 2016 news (Ghana) talked of a man who beat his wife to death on an issue as trivial as “why the ceiling fan was switched off.” An ailing wife turned off the ceiling fan which was earlier turned on by her husband who had left the bedroom. Upon his return, he asked why the wife turned off the fan and she indicated that she was feeling cold because she was ill (illness resulted from previous molestation by the husband). The husband upon hearing this got furious and beat the wife mercilessly. He hit her with anything at all he found in the room. After people came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival. Oh! What a cruel character. How can a man who once professed love to this woman, shared a bedroom and the same bed with her, and bore children together, manage to kill his wife over such issue as trivial as “why the ceiling fan was switched off.”
Also, on the same date, a stepmother out of rage killed her 3 year old stepdaughter because, on her return to the room, she found the young girl playing with electrical cable. She thought that was a dangerous act for a little girl to engage in, therefore, by reprimanding her, in a frenzy of rage, she beat the girl mercilessly. The girl was pronounced dead a few minutes after the nurses attended to her at the hospital. Why is the world filled with so many cruelties? We complain that the world itself is cruel while forgetting about our contributions to the uprising wickedness ongoing in this world.
What a world? The world itself is not the problem but the people inhabiting it. A little offense could make someone take matters into his own hands and afflict the other. The fear of God has diminished in greater parts of the world’s population giving way to pride and disregard for God and humanity. This incidentally is leading to all the mishappening, chaos and uncalled circumstances. In a place where there’s less regard for God, evil abounds. Humans ought to see one another as themselves and as people created in the image of God. The Bible says, …Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:31). If we allow the fear of God to reign in our hearts, it will be very easy to love our neighbours as well.
Proverbs 1:7 says, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Sometimes, we feel we want to live carefree lives. A life without God, but we tend to forget that such a life is baseless and results in all the ill mannered behaviours we put up.
Let’s remember that the world is not cruel, because God didn’t create a cruel world. Rather, the fear of God and the love for one another would make the world a better, even perfect place to live. If we stop engaging in violence, and be forgiving, demonstrate love, kindness and acceptance towards one another, the world will be a better place for us all to abide in.
Please tell a friend today; FEAR GOD and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR to make the world less cruel.
